Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has passed the fitness test and has been declared fit to go up against Team India at the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 9. 

The 35-year-old was struggling with a suspected rib injury, which prompted him to miss the final match of the T20I series against England last month and Pakistan’s opening match of the T20 World Cup against USA earlier this week.


Imad Wasim set to return to PAK’s setup for India match

On June 8, i.e., a day prior to Pakistan’s must-win Group A match of the 2024 T20 World Cup against arch-rivals India, star all-rounder Imad Wasim was handed a clean chit by the team management to take field for his country amidst potential injury concerns.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did release footage of Imad bowling in the nets, his availability for the match against India was clouded with much uncertainty earlier this week. However, it was earlier reported that the spin-bowling will be sent back home after the high-voltage India game.

Pakistan head coach Gary Kirsten has now himself confirmed about the all-rounder’s availability while speaking with the press in New York.

Imad Wasim missed Pakistan’s opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against USA in Texas, which the ‘Men in Green’ ended up losing in a thrilling Super Over.

Interestingly, the spin-bowling all-rounder reversed his retirement from international cricket earlier this year to make himself eligible for T20 World Cup selection in the Pakistan squad. Since his return to the Pakistan cricket team, Imad Wasim has chipped in with key wickets against teams like New Zealand, Ireland and England between April and May.

Moreover, Wasim also played a crucial role in Islamabad United’s remarkable PSL 2024 winning run this year.

Pakistan, yet to open their account on the Group A points table, will go up against India at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium on June 9.
