Fans from around the world are all gearing up in anticipation for the upcoming World Cup to unfold starting from October onwards this year. The inaugural game of the marquee event will kick off at the grand Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. England are currently the defending champions who will take on the flamboyant Blackcaps in the opening match of the tournament.

India will be hosting the ODI World Cup matches for the first time since 2011. It comes as no doubt that the Men In Blue enter the tournament as obvious favourites. Besides, with home advantage on their side, India can pose some serious challenges to the other teams.

However, many cricketing experts have come forward to express their viewpoints on potential teams that can stand out in this year's World Cup.

In a conversation with the ICC, the former Proteas captain Faf Du Plessis names his top three picks ahead of the tournament. The 39-year-old has opined that South Africa has a very strong chance of making it to the top.

Also at the same time, he admits that his national side will have to tackle the likes of India who are known to have an impressive ODI record at home. Besides, he also pointed out Australia’s track record of success in ICC events, making them another team to watch out for.

"I think South Africa has got a really good side. It will be hard to get past a team like India in home conditions. The other team you can never write off is Australia, with them being so successful in ICC events."

South Africa, despite being a powerful cricketing giant has not been able to claim the ODI World Cup title. Their closest attempt came in the 1999 and 2015 World Cup semi-finals. India, on the other hand, have successfully clinched two ODI World Cup titles in 1983 and 2011. Whereas, Australia have undoubtedly been the most successful team in ODI World Cup history with 5 titles to their name.
