India Test squad announcement delayed [Source: AFP Photo]
The Indian Test squad for the West Indies series was scheduled to be announced on Wednesday, as chief selector Ajit Agarkar was in Dubai and the team was set to be revealed during a press conference. However, it seems the fans will have to wait a bit longer, as the team announcement has been delayed.
As per fresh reports, Agarkar will reveal the squad from the team hotel on Thursday at 12:30 PM IST. India was playing against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup Super 4 match on Wednesday, and perhaps the team management does not want the players to get distracted with the squad selection in mind.
According to PTI's Kushan Sarkar, the announcement has been delayed, and the team will now be revealed a day after India’s crucial game against the Tigers.
What changes India could make for the West Indies Tests?
The core of the squad should remain the same that featured in the England Tests, but with a few injury issues, a couple of fresh faces could be seen.
Pant replacement: With Rishabh Pant already ruled out of the series due to an injury, it is expected that Dhruv Jurel will keep the wickets in his place. However, the team also needs a second keeper in the squad, and if reports are to be believed, Narayan Jagadeesan could be in line to be Pant’s replacement.
Bumrah reportedly set to play: There was a doubt regarding Bumrah’s availability for the tour, but if recent reports are true, then the ace pacer will feature in the two-match series against the West Indies.
Padikkal back in team: According to ESPNCricinfo, India are aiming to bring back Devdutt Padikkal back in the team and Nitish Kumar Reddy will also be a part of the squad.
