Indian top-order batter Devdutt Padikkal and star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are in contention to make their respective returns to India’s Test squad for the upcoming two-match series against West Indies. Padikkal played the last of his two Tests for India back in November last year against Australia in Perth.

Meanwhile, Reddy played the Test series against England before a knee injury midway prompted him to sit out of the final two Tests. Both cricketers are currently part of India A squad for an unofficial four-day Test series at home.

Padikkal, Reddy likely to return as India squad reveal looms

Devdutt Padikkal and Nitish Kumar Reddy will likely be making their respective returns to India’s Test line-up for the upcoming two-match home series against the West Indies, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

While Padikkal has played just two Tests in his career, the cricketer made a case for himself with a strong showing against Australia A bowlers earlier this month, plundering 150 runs from 281 balls with 14 fours and a six in Lucknow.

Even though Nitish Kumar Reddy was also a part of the India A squad against Australia A, the charismatic all-rounder was not included in the playing XI in his much-awaited return to competitive cricket after suffering a knee injury in England a couple of months ago. Reddy, however, might well join Padikkal in the India A playing XI for the upcoming second four-day match against Australia A in Lucknow from September 23 onwards.

Rishabh Pant to miss WI series, Dhruv Jurel on the horizon

Senior wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is all set to miss the Test series against West Indies at home considering the cricketer is yet to attain full recovery from the foot injury he sustained in England. Dhruv Jurel, who stood in as India’s keeper in England, is expected to don the wicketkeeping gloves in the series.

Notably, Jurel also recently packed a scintillating 140 against Australia A in Lucknow to warrant a return call-up to the Indian team.
