In a step closer to an enthralling victory over England in the Vizag Test, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin provided a much-needed breakthrough as he dismissed English opener Ben Duckett in the last few minutes of the final session of Day 3.

India kicked off the Day 3 of the Vizag Test against England on an underwhelming note. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma couldn't tackle James Anderson's fiery spell with the new ball and fell prey to the veteran's masterclass.

Nonetheless, Shubman Gill, being under fire for his lackluster form at number 3, bounced back against the odds to slam a scintillating hundred. Axar Patel added crucial 45 runs to set up a target of 399 runs for the visitors.

Meanwhile, England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley stepped out to survive the crucial moment of Day 3. With only 30 minutes to stumps, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma cut short pacers' spells to put spin from both ends in desperate search of an early wicket.

While English openers unleashed an onslaught, Sharma backed his spinners. The defining moment arrived when Ravichandran Ashwin sent Ben Duckett packing in his first over of the fourth inning.

Ashwin bowled a flighted delivery, which angled in. However, Duckett, in a bid to defend, was deceived by the extra bounce. The ball hit his bat, and an alert KS Bharat dived to the front to pluck a fine catch.

Ben Duckett knew he had edged it and walked back without contemplating a review.

Meanwhile, Ashwin and the rest of the squad erupted in joy as they had their first breakthrough of the Day. India is nine wickets away from clinching the Vizag Test and leveling the five-game series.

However, the task is steep as England is likely to unleash bazball intent on decisive Day 4 of the second Test.
