Cricket fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 is not going to be postponed despite all the recent tensions between India and Pakistan. As reported by Forbes, the high-voltage tournament, which was originally decided to take place in India, will now be hosted by the UAE.
"This year’s Asia Cup, a highly lucrative biennial event that essentially bankrolls regional body Asian Cricket Council, is set to be played in the United Arab Emirates with officials hopeful a cancellation can be avoided in the aftermath of renewed hostilities between foes India and Pakistan," a Forbes report read.
Why Is Asia Cup 2025 Going To Happen Outside India?
Considering the fact that cricket is the most popular sport in both India and Pakistan, withdrawal from any of these countries would mean there would be a massive impact on the media rights deals (worth $170 million), among many things.
Hence, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has reportedly decided not to make the situation too complicated and take the tournament to a neutral venue.
Who Hosted Asia Cup Last Time?
The last edition of the Asia Cup took place in 2023, with the matches taking place in a 50-over format in Pakistan. India and Sri Lanka played in the final, and there, Rohit Sharma-led side took only 6.1 overs to get the job done, making the summit clash look like a contest between men versus boys.
In all, India have won the Asia Cup title eight times, followed by Sri Lanka, who have secured the trophy on six occasions. Pakistan, meanwhile, have only won it twice.
If the tournament officially moves to the UAE, it will be the fourth time the nation will host the event. The first time the UAE hosted the Asia Cup was the inaugural edition, back in 1984. Then, the fifth and 14th editions of it took place there only, in 1995 and 2018 respectively.
