Du Plessis stumps shattered [Source: @LA_KnightRiders/x.com]
When on song, Andre Russell is a terrific bowler and he proved his worth during the Major League Cricket clash between the Texas Super Kings and the Los Angeles Knight Riders. The all-rounder bowled a dream yorker and Faf du Plessis had no answer as his stumps were castled.
The Super Kings batted first and the Knight Riders were off to a dream start as captain Narine brought on Russell to counter the opening threat and the wily all-rounder did just that. Even before du Plessis could settle in, his stumps were taken apart. The Super Kings batter was playing at 8 when Russell bowled a killer yorker and by the time the opening batter could realize, his stumps were uprooted.
Faf had also failed in the first game, and this was his consecutive failure, as his string of low scores continued in T20 cricket. The batter had a disappointing Indian Premier League 2025 for the Delhi Capitals and now his twin failures have cast doubt on his selection for the next game.
Russell taken apart despite du Plessis' wicket
The West Indian had a dream start by picking up the wicket of Super Kings captain, however, that was the only good part for him as the all-rounder was taken to the cleaners.
He went on to bowl his full quota of 4 overs but the Super Kings batters made a mockery of his bowling as Andre Russell conceded 53 runs in 4 overs. His bowling lacked the cutting-edge and the opponent utilised this weakness to perfection.
Russell's below-par bowling since IPL 2025
Since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the West Indian cricketer has been below par with the ball. He picked up just 8 wickets in 13 matches in the recently concluded IPL season and looked a pale shadow of his former self.
The Knight Riders will hope that he returns back to his old form in the next game against Washington Freedom.
