The journey of Karun Nair, once a promising Indian batter who made a 303 not out in Test cricket, is nothing short of extraordinary. In a country where cricketers are found in every corner and every street, the 33-year-old was projected to be a finished product.
Yet he kept on grinding, making significant performances one after another at the domestic level before finally living up to his usual standards in the recently concluded IPL. There, he played for Delhi Capitals and announced his arrival with a six off the first ball.
And he is back in the business again, having been picked in the squad for India’s tour of England, beginning on June 20. He made 204 in the first unofficial Test for India A versus England Lions, showing the world that the hunger is still left to prove himself again in the world of cricket.
KL Rahul In 'One Of Many Fans' About Karun Nair
India’s very own KL Rahul, who played alongside Karun for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025, seemed to be one of many Indian fans who would love to see Karun prosper in the upcoming India versus England Tests.
In a video posted by BCCI, KL Rahul talked about Karun Nair's historic comeback to national set-up, and more importantly, emphasised about his journey. Rahul said:
"I've Known Him For A Very Long Time, And The Months That He Spent Here In The UK Playing Cricket. (I Can Understand) How Hard And How Lonely It Was For Him To Be Able To Do All Of That And Come Back Into The Indian Team. It's Special For Him And His Family And For Friends Like Us Who Have Seen His Journey. Very Inspiring And Hopefully His Experience And His Learnings From Playing County Cricket Here Will Hold Him In Good Stead When He Plays The Test Matches Here."
If Karun gets picked in India’s playing XI vs England for the first Test, scheduled to take place at Headingley, Leeds, that will be his 7th international game in red-ball cricket. So far, he has batted seven innings, aggregating 374 runs, of which 303 runs came from one single knock.
