Australia's resounding victory against New Zealand in the first Test in Wellington provided a massive helping hand to Team India as Rohit Sharma's men climbed up to No.1 in the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) points table. 

Table toppers at the start of their two-match home series against the Trans-Tasman rivals, the BlackCaps slipped to the second spot after losing their second Test of the two-year cycle from five matches. 

The comprehensive defeat at the hands of the Australians reduced their percentage of points won to 60%. 

India, who just clinched their third consecutive Test win against England to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series, has reached the top slot after eight Tests and achieving a points percentage count of 64.58. 

Rohit & company have now won five and lost two Tests of the cycle. 


India Reach Top Slot In WTC 2023-25 

Team India had earlier defeated West Indies 1-0 in July 2023 and also drawn the two-match Test series in South Africa following a historic victory in Cape Town

Despite hiccups in Centurion and Hyderabad, the two-time Test championship runners-up reign on top of the standings at this stage of the cycle. 

Despite their massive win at the Basin Reserve, the Aussies stayed put at the third slot with a win percentage of 59.09, followed by Bangladesh (50), Pakistan (36.66), West Indies (33.33) and South Africa (25) at the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh slot, respectively. 

Suffering multiple over-rate penalties, England find themselves at the eighth position after winning three and losing five of their nine Tests. 

Sri Lanka are placed at the bottom of the nine-team standings with no win after their first two Tests. 

India play the fifth and final Test of their home series against England in Dharamshala from Thursday (February 7).
