South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was targeted by trolls after he raised suspicion about Suryakumar Yadav’s sensational boundary catch during the 2024 T20 World Cup finals in Barbados, which he later had to clarify.

India beat South Africa in the finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup to eliminate the ICC trophy dry spell and were crowned as the ultimate T20 World Champions.

The finale was dramatic as India enforced a heroic comeback from the dead. With 16 runs needed off the final over, Suryakumar Yadav pulled off a boundary catch to dismiss dangerman David Miller in a heroic effort.

He lost balance initially, but juggled the ball well to claim a clean catch. However, many raised suspicion about the legality of the catch and claimed that SKY touched the boundary ropes.

Suryakumar Yadav once again accused of wrongdoings !

That being said, a month later of the finals, South African spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi, dug up the matter with a tweet that received widespread backlash.

He retweeted a video in which a group of boys were arguing over a boundary catch. The fielder had held his ground as proof to convince the batting team. But after much discussion, the batter was awarded a six.

Meanwhile, Shamsi wrote that if the same technology was used in the T20 World Cup finals, perhaps Miller would not have been given out.

The tweet went viral, with fans slamming Shamsi for crying foul weeks after the tournament concluded.

However, Tabraiz Shamsi later clarified that his tweet was sarcastic and was meant for humorous purposes. It was a joke, which sadly many people failed to understand.

Notably, Suryakumar Yadav has often clarified that his catch was legal and that he had practised for such instances during fielding drills.
