Amidst Rift Reports, Andrew Flintoff To Fill In For Trescothick Ahead Of ENG Vs SL 3rd Test

Andrew Flintoff is set to fill in for Marcus Trescothick within the Brendon McCullum-led England coaching setup ahead of the upcoming third and final Test match against Sri Lanka. Trescothick will be taking a short break after the conclusion of England’s second Test against the visitors at Lord’s, and he will be expected to return as team’s interim white-ball head coach for the T20I and ODI series against Australia in September at home.

Andrew Flintoff recently coached the Northern Superchargers franchise in The Hundred 2024 season, where they narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs.

Marcus Trescothick to rejoin England for AUS series

Andrew Flintoff, who was reportedly had a rift with England's white-ball captain Jos Buttler, will link up with England’s Test squad for the third and final match of their ongoing home series against Sri Lanka. The match itself is scheduled to be played between September 6 and September 10 at The Oval in London.

Marcus Trescothick, who is a part of England’s Brendon McCullum-led coaching setup, will be taking a break after the Lord’s Test. After taking a few days off, Trescothick will join the English players just in time for their three-match T20I and five-match ODI series against the visiting Australians. The first of the eight white-ball games against Australia will be played on September 11 at The Rose Bowl.

The English cricket team is currently engaged in the second Test of their three-match rubber against Sri Lanka. Joe Root and tailender Gus Atkinson plundered majestic centuries in the first innings of the match to lift England’s total to 427.
