In the last three editions of the ODI World Cup, the host nation has lifted the coveted title. This has once again brought to the fore the much-debated topic of 'home advantage'.

In the wake of the 'home advantage' debate, International Cricket Council (ICC) head curator Andy Atkinson has informed the venue curators in India to try and minimise the home advantage factor as much as possible while preparing pitches.

In India, where the 2023 World Cup will be held, we could mostly see flat pitches where spinners may get no assistance.

"The ICC head curator said the curators should try and make sure they are not pressurised by the home team when it comes to pitch preparation. The focus should be on preparing a wicket that’s as sporting as possible and not something that favours the home side," a source close to BCCI told The Telegraph.

"The wickets will vary as the nature of the soil isn't the same everywhere. But he wants such tracks that promise games going the distance," the source added.

There have been instances when pitches in India received poor rating. The most recent instance of the same was seen after the T20I match between India and New Zealand at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow earlier this year.

Meanwhile, the World Cup will get underway with the opening match between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which will also host the India vs Pakistan match.
