On Saturday, former Delhi cricket captain Mithun Manhas emerged as the frontrunner to become the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
As per the reports, his name gained strong support during an informal meeting of senior cricket administrators and decision-makers, held just before the BCCI’s annual general meeting on September 28.
Manhas, who has also served as the Director of Cricket Operations for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, is now being seen as a strong choice for Indian cricket’s top administrative role.
The post of BCCI president became vacant after Roger Binny finished his term and had to step down because he reached the board’s age limit.
Who Is Mithun Manhas And How Much Does He Earn?
For those who may not know him well, Mithun Manhas had a highly successful domestic cricket career, even though he never played for the Indian national team. He represented Delhi in 157 first-class matches and scored an impressive 9,714 runs at an average of over 45, including 27 centuries.
Alongside first-class cricket, he played 130 List A games and 91 T20 matches. His talent and consistency also earned him opportunities in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for major teams like the Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings.
When it comes to earnings, Manhas steadily built his wealth during his IPL career. He began with Delhi Daredevils in 2008, where he earned ₹1.2 million per season until 2010. His consistent performance got him a better deal with Pune Warriors India in 2011, where his salary rose to ₹3 million per season, a figure he continued to receive until 2013.
In 2014 and 2015, he joined the Chennai Super Kings and maintained the same ₹3 million annual contract. Over the course of his IPL journey across three franchises, Manhas earned a total of about ₹18.6 million (₹1.86 crore), according to OneIndia.
