India women captain Harmanpreet Kaur has had a fascinating journey with her jersey numbers. In the early days of her career, she wore the number 84, a choice made by her mother to honor and remember the victims of the 1984 riots. 

This number carried a deep emotional connection for her family and gave her early years in cricket a sense of purpose beyond the game.

As time went on, Harmanpreet decided to switch to the number 7. This change was inspired by her school days and later reinforced by her admiration for MS Dhoni, who is famously associated with the same number. 

For many years, she carried the number 7 on her back, and it became a reflection of her aggressive style, fearless leadership, and the confidence with which she represented India.

However, in November 2024, during the launch of India’s new ODI jersey in Mumbai, Harmanpreet surprised many by stepping out in a shirt marked with the number 23 instead of 7. 

Speaking at the event, she expressed her excitement about the fresh design and colors, calling the jersey very special. 

What Was The Reason Harmanpreet Kaur Changed Her WODI Jersey Number?

The decision to move away from number 7 was not random. Renowned numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani revealed that he had advised Harmanpreet to adopt number 23 for good fortune. 

Following his suggestion, she switched to the new number and soon after led Mumbai Indians to victory in the Women’s Premier League 2025 against Delhi Capitals. 

Notably, not only did she captain the side to success, but she was also the highest run-scorer in the final and won the Player of the Match award, which gave further weight to the numerologist’s claims.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet Kaur will now lead Women In Blue in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2025 in India and Sri Lanka.
