Cricket is more than just a sport in South Asia; it's a passion that unites nations and millions of fans. While India boasts a thriving cricket industry with significant financial rewards for its players, neighbouring Nepal faces a stark contrast in terms of player compensation. In this article, we explore the glaring pay of the Nepalese cricketers and the steps taken by the Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) to address this issue.

Indian cricketers enjoy a lavish lifestyle, earning substantial incomes from various sources like match fees, endorsements, and participation in high-profile leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their earnings can range from lakhs to crores of Indian rupees, making them some of the highest-paid athletes in the world.

In contrast, Nepali cricketers face a financial challenge that reflects a significant pay gap between the two nations. The salary adjustments made by CAN in response to changing times are a step in the right direction but still leave a substantial disparity when compared to their Indian counterparts. Here's a breakdown of the salary categories:

Nepal cricketers' salary (Male players)

Category A Rs 60,000 per month
Category B
Rs 50,000 per month
Category CRs 40,000 per month

Nepal cricketers' salary (female players)

Category ARs 21,000 per month
Category B Rs 18,000 per month
Category CRs 15,000 per month

Putting this into perspective, a Nepali cricketer earning Rs 60,000 per month would be equivalent to approximately Rs 37,719 in India. Even at its highest, the monthly income of Nepali cricketers remains significantly lower than what their Indian counterparts earn. This pay gap is even more striking when compared to the earnings of government employees in India.

Despite these financial challenges, Nepal's cricket team participated in the Asia Cup, a significant achievement for the nation. However, the excitement of the tournament is shadowed by the realization that Nepali cricketers are struggling to make ends meet compared to players from more prosperous cricketing nations.

The Nepal Cricket Association recognized the need for change and has taken the first steps toward addressing this issue by increasing player salaries. However, it remains essential for stakeholders, sponsors, and the government to come together to support the growth of cricket in Nepal and provide fair compensation to its players

While cricket continues to be a symbol of national pride and unity in Nepal, the financial challenges faced by its cricketers are undeniable. The disparity in pay between Nepali and  cricketers  all over the world is a stark reminder of the unequal distribution of resources in the cricketing world.
