In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the updated Test rankings of men's cricketers. Several WTC final-bound players from Australia and South Africa were among the most significant gainers in the standings.

Markram, Starc Soar High After WTC Final Heroics

South Africa's stylish batter Aiden Markram has reaped the rewards for his game-changing knock in the World Test Championship final against Australia.

Markram, who led South Africa's historic run chase through a magnificent hundred, has moved seven places up, finishing at the eleventh spot in the ICC Test rankings for batters. He is only two points behind Daryl Mitchell, who claims the final spot among the top ten Test batters.

Mitchell Starc's stellar show in the WTC final has helped him rise in the ICC rankings for bowlers and all-rounders. Starc, who bagged five wickets and struck a brave fifty, currently sits tenth on both these lists.

On a similar note, David Bedingham (17 places up to 40th) and Lungi Ngidi (7 spots up to 37th) have made notable progress in the batting and bowling charts, respectively.

Travis Head Demoted In ICC Rankings After WTC Final Failure

On the contrary, swashbuckling Australian batter Travis Head has moved four places down, finishing the week outside the top ten in the batters' chart.

Head couldn't live up to the expectations in the WTC final, managing only 20 runs across both innings of the Test match. Australia's top-order batters Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne have also suffered a decline, moving six and three spots down, respectively, on the list.

Ace Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah retains the top spot in the Test bowlers' rankings, with South Africa's WTC final hero Kagiso Rabada following him in second place. Beau Webster, who scored a gritty half-century in the first innings, also moved 13 places up for his valiant batting effort in the ultimate showdown.
