Bangladesh dominated the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle with Shanto and Rahim scoring brilliant hundreds. The duo continued their form on Day 2 and as Bangladesh charged towards a score of 423-4 in the second session of the day, the rain arrived in Galle to halt the proceedings.
Chances Of Play Bleak On Day 2
It is raining quite heavily at the moment and with overcast conditions expected to stay till the end of the day, the chances of any further play are slim.
According to AccuWeather, the chance of rain is 20 percent till the evening. The cloud cover is likely to be over 80 percent, and thus, even though rain stops in between, the groundsmen are likely to not get any help from the overhead conditions to dry out the ground. Also, Sri Lanka is known for its unpredictable weather and rain always seems to be around the corner, irrespective of the weather forecast

Therefore, there will be no cricket in the afternoon session, and if at all the conditions improve, we might see an hour of action in the final session. The only positive thing is the drainage system at the Galle International Cricket Stadium, which is designed to handle the persistent rains in Sri Lanka.
Talking about the match, the rain and overcast conditions could help Sri Lankan bowlers find breakthroughs if play resumes today. The pitch, however, is pretty flat and Bangladesh batters have already managed to get a good total on the board. Mushfiqur Rahim is eyeing a double ton while Litton Das is also closing on a century, and they would like to continue on their merry ways once the action resumes.
However, the chances of rain are pretty high in the remaining three days, and it could take lot of time out of the game. Consequently, Bangladesh could even take a bold call of declaring the innings and make use of the overcast conditions to eke out a result from the match.
