It is known to everyone that King Kohli's career wouldn't have been the same had he not gone to the West Delhi Cricket Academy under the guidance of Mr Sharma.
In the Instagram story, Kohli's sister penned a heartfelt message, stating: "Happy Birthday sir, you are a true guide and mentor."
Rajkumar Sharma's importance in Kohli's life
Throughout his illustrious career, Kohli has stressed the importance of his coach in his cricketing journey. A couple of years back, Kohli posted an emotional message for his coach and this is what he said:
"I am forever grateful to Rajkumar sir who has not just been a coach to me, but also a mentor who has supported me throughout my journey. I was just a boy who dared to dream but it was your belief that helped me don the Indian jersey 15 years ago.
"For every bit of advice, every batting lesson, every smack on my head, every pat on my back and for carrying my dream as your own, I want to thank you", he further added, as quoted by HT.
How Rajkumar Sharma shaped Kohli's career
Kohli, at a very young age, joined Rajkumar Sharma's academy in West Delhi and this is where he shaped his cricketing career under his guidance. His coach was the one who guided Kohli to work on his weaknesses and also worked on the mental aspect of the game.
Time and again, whenever the India star failed at the international level, Rajkumar Sharma was always there to guide him through the dark phase. For all the success the India star achieved, he never shied away from coming back to his coach for an honest discussion on his game. This humbleness kept Kohli grounded and helped him to become the "Virat" player he is today.
