In a significant development, the BCCI has officially added Harshit Rana to the Indian squad ahead of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. The cricketing body confirmed the development through a press release.
Harshit Rana Joins Indian Test Side For Headingley Affair
Ace Indian speedster Harshit Rana travelled with the Indian A side to feature in the unofficial Tests against the England Lions ahead of the much-awaited five-match series. Although he blew hot and cold in the unofficial matches, the BCCI selection committee has picked Rana as a wildcard entry into the Indian team for the series opener in Leeds.
"The Men's Selection Committee has added Harshit Rana to India's squad for the first Test in Leeds against England. Rana, who was a part of the India A squad has linked up with the team as India begin preparations for the first Test. The Five-match Test series kicks off at Headingley, Leeds on June 20, 2025," the BCCI statement read.
Rana sent down 28 overs in England Lions' first innings, scalping a solitary wicket for 100 runs. He was also expensive in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under, managing only four wickets across three innings at an average of 50.75 and a strike rate of 67.50.
Therefore, the BCCI's decision to pick him over the in-form Anshul Kamboj raised a million eyebrows among the Indian cricket fraternity.
