The six-time World Cup Champions Australia have endured a very demanding campaign in the recently-concluded 2023 World Cup tournament where they shot to glory by defeating an undefeated Indian side by 6 wickets with 7 overs to spare. Their triumphant World Cup final victory has come at a cost though as the Men in Yellow are currently behind by 2-0 in the ongoing T20I series with several key players being left out.

Prior to the commencement of the T20I series, David Warner, who was a part of the World Cup-winning squad had withdrawn himself from the T20I squad. And by the looks of it, the remaining senior members are also likely to be rested.

As per a report published by the Sydney Morning Herald, it has been learnt that the trio of Ben McDermott, Josh Philippe, and Chris Green are in contention to receive a call-up ahead of the third T20I match. However, at this stage, it is still being determined as to which senior players are likely to be left out to pave the way for these youngsters. However, it is probable that individuals who have been on tour for an extended period, commencing with the bilateral ODI series in India and including the 2023 ODI World Cup will be excluded.

Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Adam Zampa, Sean Abbott, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis and even Tanveer Sangha are among some of the individuals who have played an active part in the above-mentioned assignments and have spent more than two months on Indian soil. Previously, these players were also seen in action during Australia’s tour to South Africa which comprised 3 T20I & 5 ODI matches.

The Men in Yellow must emerge victorious in all three remaining matches of the series in order to reverse the deficit of 0-2. The visiting team has suffered defeats in the high-scoring encounters against the second-string Indian squad, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, who hasn’t put a foot wrong, thus far.
