Ishan Kishan’s advancement up the batting order has paid dividends for Team India. His recent move to the number three position has enabled the explosive batter to showcase his talent. In the ongoing T20I series against Australia, Kishan has plundered runs at a rapid rate and has already notched up two consecutive half-centuries.
In the past, Kishan has typically contributed as an opening batsman for India in white-ball cricket. Nevertheless, his role shifted to the middle order during the Asia Cup 2023, and this change has persisted in the ongoing T20I series against Australia, where he has been assigned the number three position.
During the first T20I match, Kishan showed aggressive intent and raced to 58 (39) by smashing 2 fours and 5 sixes. Furthermore, he displayed his ability to change gears and famously took on a young Tanveer Sangha clobbering him for 30 runs in his 10 deliveries. He continued his aggressive form with the bat in the second T20I as well smashing a dazzling cameo of 52 (32) which helped India reach a daunting score of 235/4.
Kishan speaks on his new role
While speaking to JioCinema, Kishan expressed his happiness while batting at the top of the Blues and stated that batting at number three is nearly as enjoyable as opening the batting.
"I think it's fun batting at opening and first down at the same time. Because, you know, at least you know the situation when you are batting at one down, You know what game you have to play, what situation it is. Because initially, it was not easy for the batsman to go in and start rotating the strike."
He further stressed that his new batting position will allow him to mold his batting by varying game situations. With 2-0 up in the series, India have one eye on sealing the series as they look to take on the Aussies in their next T20I encounter at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on November 28.
