Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik has backed young South African paceman Gerald Coetzee to set the cash registers ringing at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Coetzee recently delivered a match-winning all-round performance against Team India in Gqeberha, just a couple of days after bagging a scintillating three-fer in a high scoring Indian innings at Durban.

As per Karthik, Coetzee is a ‘thinking cricketer’ who seems to have worked on his lower-order batting off late.

RCB coach believes Coetzee will take a fat pay cheque

While speaking on Cricbuzz, RCB’s newly-appointed batting coach Dinesh Karthik backed Gerald Coetzee to bag a fat pay cheque at the IPL 2025 auction. The former Indian wicketkeeper-batter added that the young South African speedster has been impressing one and all, and claimed that the 24-year-old fast bowler is not a ‘one-trick pony’. He said:

“I am sure he will take a fat pay cheque. He is a thinking cricketer; someone who has worked on his batting. He is not just a one-trick pony.”

Gerald Coetzee was roped in by the Mumbai Indians franchise back in late-2023 for the IPL 2024 season earlier this year. Playing 10 matches for the franchise, the speedster picked up 13 wickets at an average of 26.23 and at an expensive economy rate of over 10.

On October 31, Coetzee was released by the Mumbai Indians team management and he is now set to enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with hopes of a fresh stint.

Quite recently, his all-round exploits pummelled a strong Indian unit at Gqeberha in a low-scoring thriller. After picking up the key wicket of Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, the speedster whacked 19 unbeaten runs from just nine deliveries in a tense chase to steer South Africa home in the penultimate over.

During South Africa’s 61-run loss in the preceding game, Gerald Coetzee also delivered another impressive performance with the ball in a high-scoring Indian innings of 202 runs. He unfurled the spell of the innings with figures of 3-37, picking up the wickets of dangermen Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh.
