Just one good innings in 10 T20Is and Abhishek Sharma is already feeling the heat as the India opener was once again dismissed cheaply in the second T20I vs South Africa. He started with a brilliant pull shot boundary, but Gerald Coetzee brought his best to knock over the southpaw.
India already had a 1-0 lead in the series and they came into the second T20I to seal the series. However, a fired up Proteas side came out all guns blazing as Marco Jasen got the prized wicket of Sanju Samson to give an early jolt to India. Samson, who had slammed a century in the last match for dismissed for duck.
Coetzee bowled the second over and on the first ball, Abhishek showed his class with a brilliant boundary. However, the Proteas pacer had the last laugh as he bowled an inch perfect short ball and Abhishek miscued his pull shot as the ball goes straight into the hands of the fielder at short fine leg.
Abhishek's poor run in T20Is continues
Barring a scintillating ton Vs Zimbabwe, Abhishek is yet to cross the 20-run mark in T20I format. He has consistently struggled for runs as pressure mount on the youngster. 16 off 7 balls is his next best T20I score which showcases his vulnerabilities at the top.
With the new era of T20I cricket beginning after the T20 World Cup, India made plethora of changes and one of them was to deploy Abhishek at the top for his aggressive batting. But so far, the plan has failed as the opener is yet to fire all guns blazing.
