Harshit Rana recently celebrated his selection for India’s Test squad with an impressive debut spell in the Ranji Trophy. Rana playing for Delhi against Assam at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the 22-year-old made an immediate impact right away, scalping four wickets to lead Delhi’s charge.

Rana’s fierce bowling and ability to capitalise on a pitch with extra bounce and pace helped dismantle Assam’s top order, making him one to watch this season.

Harshit Rana Rattles Assan With A Magnificent Spell

Freshly chosen for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Rana seemed determined to prove his worth. His initial spell was outstanding, with figures of 5-3-5-2. He quickly adapted to the game after a brief hiatus, seizing the advantage provided by the lively pitch. Within just 15 deliveries, he managed to dismiss Assam’s opener, Subham Mandal, thanks to a sharp first-slip catch by Yash Dhull. Just two balls later, he took out Abhishek Thakuri for a duck, unsettling Assam’s lineup from the start.

Despite Rana’s early success, Assam found a way to counter with a solid 49-run partnership between Rishav Das and captain Denish Das. However, Harshit Rana returned with short-pitched balls that troubled the batsmen, leading to Rishav Das’s dismissal with a well-executed pull shot. Rana continued his impressive spell, capturing his fourth wicket in his last session by dismissing Swarupam Purkayastha.

Chief selector-coach duo Gursharan Singh and Sarandeep Singh chose a pace-heavy strategy, yet only Rana and debutant Money Grewal (1 for 42) made significant contributions. Unfortunately, their teammates, Himanshu Chauhan (0 for 47) and Siddhant Sharma (0 for 36), struggled to maintain the same pressure.

Assam’s Middle Order Stands Strong

By the close of Day 1, Assam managed 264 for 6 in 76 overs, led by Sumit Ghadigaonkar, who stayed unbeaten at 120, and Sibsankar Roy, who added 59 runs.
