India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur attained a significant record during the T20I match against Sri Lanka. Mohammad Rizwan continues to struggle for the Melbourne Renegades in the ongoing BBL 2025-26 season. In other news, India Under-19 team succumbed to a comprehensive defeat to Pakistan in the final of the 2025 Under-19 Asia Cup.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Sunday, December 21.

Sameer Minhas flays India in U19 Asia Cup win for Pakistan

Pakistan Under-19 opener Sameer Minhas crashed Indian bowlers with an attacking 172-run knock from just 113 balls with 17 fours and nine huge sixes in the final of the 2025 Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai. Sameer’s thunderous knock bolted Pakistan Under-19 to a monumental 347-8 in 50 overs. The youngster also won the ‘Player of the Match’ award after Pakistan Under-19 bowlers wrapped up India for just 156 to secure a comprehensive 191-run win, thus clinching an Under-19 Asia Cup title for only the second time in history.

Australia retain WTC spot, England on the brink after another Ashes drubbing

Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc cleaned up the English tail as the hosts claimed a huge 82-run win to go 3-0 up in the ongoing 2025-26 Ashes Test series at the Adelaide Oval. Alex Carey bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his two defining knocks in the Test, thus overshadowing Travis Head’s blitzkrieg in the second innings.

Nonetheless, the outcome also helped Australia retain their number one spot on the 2025-27 WTC points table. England remained at number seven on the standings with a dismal PCT of just 27.08 after eight Tests.

Nathan Lyon sustains hamstring injury on Day 5 of Adelaide Test

Legendary Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon suffered a right hamstring injury early on Day 5 of the third Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series at the Adelaide Oval. Lyon’s availability for the remaining two Tests of the series is now in serious doubt. The 38-year-old seemingly injured himself while diving to stop the ball, instantly grabbing his hamstring and calling for assistance.

Nathan Lyon bowled 25 overs in the decisive England innings, picking up three wickets on Day 4 to clinch five for the match.

Mohammad Rizwan flops again for Renegades in BBL 2025-26

Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan scored a sluggish 32 while batting at number three for the Melbourne Renegades in match number eight of the 2025-26 BBL season. Arriving to the crease in the second over of the match against Hobart Hurricanes in South Geelong in Victoria after falling for just four against Brisbane Heat, Rizwan took 26 deliveries to accrue his 32 as the Renegades listed just 145-9 in 20 overs.

The Renegades ended up losing the match by seven wickets to slip to number seven on the 2025-26 BBL points table.

Harmanpreet Kaur creates history in T20I vs Sri Lanka

India women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur became only the second women’s cricketer, and the first from India, to play 350 international matches. The 36-year-old achieved the feat during India’s first T20I of the series against Sri Lanka at the VDCA Stadium in Vizag. New Zealand legend Suzie Bates is the only other cricketer to have played over 350 internationals so far, and Harmanpreet Kaur is closely followed by third placed Ellyse Perry (347 matches).
