The Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy final between Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh was marred by a controversial umpiring decision, igniting a firestorm of criticism and calls for reform in Indian domestic cricket's umpiring standards.

CK Nayudu Trophy Final: Batter wrongly given out

The eye of the storm centres on a dubious call, where Karnataka's opening batsman Prakhar Chaturvedi was controversially dismissed caught-behind, despite replays clearly showing that UP's wicketkeeper Aaradhya Yadav fumbled the catch.

In an attempt to hook a delivery from pacer Shubham Mishra, Chaturvedi was declared out by the on-field umpire after Yadav, despite initially grabbing the ball, let it slip from his grasp upon hitting the ground. The ball was visibly out of control before Yadav managed to scoop it back up and appeal, leading to a premature end to Chaturvedi's promising innings at 33.

This decision has not only questioned the match's integrity but has also sparked a widespread uproar on social media, with fans and pundits alike lambasting the standard of umpiring.

Some have gone as far as to accuse Yadav of unsportsmanlike conduct, with calls for his banishment from the sport, while others hint at darker allegations of match-fixing shadowing the game.

Meanwhile, despite the controversy, Karnataka powered ahead in the match, laying down a hefty first-innings score of 358, riding on the back of a century from Yashovardhan Parantap and a solid 66 from wicketkeeper Kruthik Krishna.

Their dominance continued as they rattled Uttar Pradesh for 139, taking a commanding first innings lead, thanks to a five-wicket haul from Paras Gurbax Arya. Karnataka's second innings saw them amass a monumental 585, setting an almost insurmountable target of 805 for Uttar Pradesh.
