With Mohammed Shami ruled out of the IPL, Gujarat Titans face the absence of their top wicket-taker in the power play last season. 

While options like Kartik Tyagi, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Umesh Yadav are available as potential direct replacements for Shami from their own squad, Gujarat might opt for a similar replacement from outside. Here are three possible candidates the Gujarat Titans could consider.


Ishan Porel 

Ishan Porel might be considered one of the unluckiest players in cricket. Despite being part of the U-19 team alongside GT skipper Shubman Gill in 2018, Ishan has never had a real opportunity to showcase his abilities. 

He only played one game in the IPL for Punjab Kings and has since faced challenges with injuries and form. Surprisingly, he went unsold in the 2024 IPL auction. 

Despite this, he boasts impressive stats, with 40 wickets in 29 games and an economy rate of 7.17. Given his potential, Ishan could be a viable option for GT.


Kamlesh Nagarkoti 

Nagarkoti belongs to the same Under-19 batch as Gill, Arshdeep, and Porel. Known for his ability to consistently bowl at around 140 kmph, Nagarkoti has had stints with both KKR and DC in the IPL. 

However, his progress has been hampered by stress injuries and inconsistency, resulting in a lack of continuity. 

Nevertheless, Nagarkoti has shown promise lately in the domestic circuit. While he remains an option for Gujarat Titans, his statistics in shorter formats are not as impressive as his performances in red-ball cricket.


Varun Aaron 

If Gujarat Titans are seeking experience, Varun Aaron could be their top choice. Once hailed as the fastest bowler in India, Aaron has accumulated 44 IPL wickets from 52 games. 

Having retired from red-ball cricket, he is now focusing on white-ball cricket, equipped with new tricks in his arsenal. 

With young talents like Tyagi and Omarzai in the squad, the Gujarat Titans may benefit from Aaron's experience and expertise. Varun previously played for Gujarat in the 2022 IPL.
