Gujarat's Ranji Hero Priyank Panchal Retires From First-Class Cricket At 35

Priyank Panchal, former Gujarat captain and India A skipper, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on his official Instagram account with immediate effect. Later, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) also confirmed his retirement.

Interestingly, the 35-year-old opener, renowned for his prolific domestic career spanning 17 years, bid farewell on May 26, 2025, closing a chapter marked by consistent run-scoring and leadership. 

Panchal Emotionally Announces His Retirement

In an emotional note on his Instagram account, Panchal wrote, "I, Priyank Panchal, announce my retirement from first-class cricket with immediate effect. It’s an emotional moment. It’s an enriching moment, and it’s a moment which fills me with a lot of gratitude.”

Panchal amassed 8,856 runs in 127 First-Class matches at an average of 45.18, including 29 centuries and 34 fifties.

His white-ball contributions were equally notable with 3,672 runs in 97 List A games and 1,522 runs in 58 T20s. The 2016-17 Ranji Trophy season highlighted his dominance, where his 1,310 runs, featuring an unbeaten 314, propelled Gujarat to their maiden title. 

Panchal's Gujarat Heroics

Panchal also anchored Gujarat’s Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2012-13, 2013-14) triumphs. Notably, he seconds Gujarat's all-time top-scorer Parthiv Patel with 6992 runs from 164 innings.

GCA secretary Anil Patel lauded Panchal's legacy, stating, “The Gujarat Cricket Association congratulates Mr. Priyank Panchal on a fantastic career. The batter has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Sunday, May 26, 2025.”

A stalwart for Gujarat, Panchal’s leadership extended to captaining India A, though a senior national call-up remained elusive. His technical prowess as an opener and mentorship of younger players cemented his status as a domestic legend who delivered consistency with his bat.
