Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, August 7.

Shubman Gill To Lead Arshdeep, Harshit In North Zone

Indian Test captain Shubman Gill will be leading the North Zone team in the upcoming 2025 Duleep Trophy. The 15-player squad also includes fellow international stars like Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Anshul Kamboj.

Ankit Kumar has been named as the vice-captain of the team. The 2025 Duleep Trophy season will launch with a match between North Zone and East Zone. The four-day match between August 28 and August 31 will be hosted by the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground in Bengaluru.

Kuldeep, Patidar To Play Under Dhruv Jurel In Duleep Trophy

The entire Central Zone squad has also been unveiled for the 2025 Duleep Trophy season. Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel, who recently toured England, will lead the team and he will be accompanied by fellow international stars in the form of RCB captain Rajat Patidar, Khaleel Ahmed, star all-rounder Deepak Chahar and seasoned Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav.

Vidarbha spinner Harsh Dubey has also been selected in the team, after claiming 69 wickets in this year’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season. The Central Zone will play their first match of the Duleep Trophy 2025 season from August 28 onwards against North East Zone.

Rishabh Pant Likely To Miss Asia Cup And WI Series

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will likely miss the upcoming 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE owing to the injury setback he sustained during India’s five-match Test tour of England. The cricketer suffered a toe injury during the fourth Test, and was subsequently ruled out of the series-decider at The Oval.

The blistering stumper might also miss Team India’s upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies cricket team at home between October 2 and October 14 later this year.

Matt Henry, Foulkes Destroy Zimbabwe On Day 1

New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry snared sensational figures of 5-40 against Zimbabwe on Day 1 of the second Test in Bulawayo. His pace mate Zakary Foulkes also picked up four wickets to claim figures of 4-38 as New Zealand dusted out Zimbabwe for just 125 in 48.5 overs.

Later in the day, New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Will Young both struck swift half-centuries as the visitors reached a commanding 174-1 from just 39 overs by stumps. Conway ended the day unbeaten at 79* off 120 balls alongside night watchman Jacob Duffy at number three (8*).

Konstas, Connolly To Headline Australia A Squads For India Tour

Cricket Australia has unveiled Australia A squads for the upcoming One-Day and four-day match tour of India next month. Rising star Sam Konstas was included in Australia’s four-day squad in a bid to get acclimatized with the spinning conditions of India ahead of next year’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series.

Xavier Bartlett, Nathan McSweeney, Josh Philippe were also included in the multi-day squad; while players like Jake Fraser-McGurk, Todd Murphy, Will Sutherland and Tanveer Sangha were included in the white-ball squad. Cooper Connolly is one of the few players to feature in both squads for the tour.
