Pakistan Women captain Fatima Sana has been punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during Pakistan’s first T20I of the three-match away series against Ireland at the Castle Avenue in Dublin on Wednesday, August 6.
After the match, Sana was handed a demerit point by match referee Graham McCrea. Other match officials like on-field umpires Roland Black, Gareth Morrison as well as third umpire Aidan Seaver had levelled the charges against the Pakistani skipper.
Fatima Sana Pays A Heavy Price For Showing Dissent
During the first T20I match at the Castle Avenue, Pakistan Women skipper Fatima Sana was found breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during the 13th over of the Pakistani run-chase, when the cricketer was adjudged caught behind by the on-field umpire after the appeal from Irish fast bowler Lara McBride.
Visibly frustrated by the umpire’s decision, Fatima Sana showed dissent towards the match official by staying at her crease with her hands on her hips before slowly walking off the field. Her gesture was seen as an act of dissent by both on-field umpires as well as by the third umpire.
Fatima Sana admitted the offense and accepted the demerit point imposed by match referee Graham McCrea. It is worth noting that when a player accumulates four or more demerit points over a period of 24 months, then the cricketer falls into a risk of getting banned.
Fatima Sana’s Heroics In Vain As PAK Lose To Ireland
Fatima Sana picked up sensational figures of 4-26 from her four overs as Pakistan Women restricted the Irish Women to just 142 in 19.4 overs. Chasing 143, the ‘Women in Green’ reached just 131-9 from 20 overs to fall 11 runs short of their target.
Fatima Sana’s wicket at 70-6 in 13 overs turned out to be one of the defining moments of the match.
