According to emerging reports, experienced batter Rishabh Pant is set to miss the upcoming Asia Cup as well as the home Test series against West Indies due to injury. The swashbuckling southpaw was recently ruled out of the final Test against England after sustaining a toe injury in the penultimate affair of the five-match series in Manchester.

Pant Likely To Be Ruled Out Of Asia Cup And WI Tests

Rishabh Pant fractured his toe during the fourth Test between India and England after a pacy delivery from Chris Woakes struck him right on his foot while he was attempting an audacious reverse scoop. The keeper-batter walked off the field immediately and couldn't participate in the decider at Kennington Oval, with Dhruv Jurel replacing him in India's playing XI.

While Pant continues to recover from the aforementioned injury, a TOI report has claimed that he will miss India's two major upcoming assignments- the Asia Cup and the Test series against the West Indies at home.

"Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant won't require surgery after a toe fracture during the fourth Test in Manchester. However, Pant has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks. He will miss the Asia Cup and possibly the West Indies series" the TOI report stated.

Rishabh Pant's absence won't likely cost India anyway, as he has been out of the T20I scheme of things for quite a while now. However, despite his underwhelming returns in the shortest format, Pant is undoubtedly one of India's most valuable assets in Test cricket. Therefore, it will be a big blow to the hosts if he gets sidelined from the West Indies home series.

Talking about India's other wicketkeeping options, Sanju Samson is likely to get picked for the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel is the frontrunner to replace Pant in the West Indies series if the latter misses out on selection.
