Coming as tough news for cricket fans, the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is in doubt to host the games in the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup 2025, to be held jointly in India and Sri Lanka. The reports say that the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has not yet obtained permission to host the games from the Karnataka State government.

ICC And BCCI Under Immense Pressure Over Chinnaswamy Issue

The news causing a significant headache to both BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and ICC (International Cricket Council) heads is that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has not yet obtained any sort of clearance from the government after the deadly stampede that happened here in June, where 11 fans died, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

It is worth noting that the eight-team tournament will be played from the 30th of September until the 2nd of November, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with the opening clash between the two hosts slated to be played here, alongside three other games, including the second semi-final.

Now, with the clouds hanging over Chinnaswamy, there is a high level of uncertainty, as the apex bodies are considering shifting the game altogether to another venue.

"We've written to the State Government and are awaiting a response. It's not as if they've denied permission. If that were the policy, they wouldn't have allowed the Maharaja Cup in Mysuru. So, we're waiting. There is some more time for this and we're going step by step," a KSCA official said to Cricbuzz.

To the unversed, alongside Bengaluru, Indore, Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Sri Lanka's Colombo, are other venues where the games will be hosted during this 31-match event, as out of those 31, 28 will be league matches, alongside two semi-finals and a grand finale on the 2nd of November.

Apart from hosts India and Sri Lanka, other sides in the competition are England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, which is why it is expected to be a high-octane tournament.

IPL Winning Celebration Turned Into A Deadly Stampede

A day after lifting their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side hosted a winning parade and function at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

However, much to the shock of the authorities and other dignitaries, more than two lakh people turned up at the venue, which was not anticipated at all, as it turned into a deadly stampede where 11 fans died while several others got injured.

Just as there were several cases filed against both the cricket association and the RCB side, alongside the organising committee, the case is still pending in the court. Following the incident, the tribunal decided that Chinnaswamy is unsafe to host major events, including cricket matches, which is the reason why this game is under much threat.

To the unversed, previously, the KSCA shifted the Maharaja Cup T20 tournament games from Bengaluru to Mysuru, as they did not want to take any chance.
