A couple of months ago, there were reports that Rishabh Pant was in line to be India's next Test captain. However, the latest development will shock the fans.

Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed India head coach reckons that Shubman Gill, who made his Test debut a couple of years ago is a better choice for Test captaincy, and not Pant.

It was also reported that the team management looks at Gill as the next three-format captain, and will most probably be the vice-captain for the Bangladesh series.

Interestingly, when the Duleep Trophy squads were announced on Wednesday, Pant was placed in Team B, which will be led by Abhimanyu Easwaran.

Despite Pant being the senior member of the Indian team, the captaincy armband was given to Easwaran, which raised eyebrows amongst ex-cricketers.

There is a growing speculations that the new team management only sees Pant as a valuable asset with the bat and behind the stumps in Tests, but they see a vision with Gill, and the vision is to the Indian cricket forward along with him.

The Duleep Trophy starts next month, and Pant has a great chance to silence his critics. After the tournament, he'll most likely be seen in action against Bangladesh in a two-match Test series.
