So many have tried, and so many have fallen down. This has been the history of those cricketers who have tried to break Sachin Tendulkar's record, but have failed under immense pressure.

The latest name being put forward is former England skipper, Joe Root, who is the latest front-runner to dethrone Sachin from the top of the Test mountain. Root's former captain, Sir Alastair Cook had a golden chance to do the unthinkable, but he retired at an early age, keeping the record of most Test runs intact.

Root's consistency can help him in breaking Sachin's record

However, the speed with which Root is scoring runs, don't be surprised if he actually achieves the miracle. The Yorkshire cricketer is just 33-years-old, with plenty of cricket left in him.

Root has played 143 Tests till date, and has accumulated 12027 runs, at an average of 50.11. If he keeps his motivation, and desires to play for another 4 years, then the right-handed batter has a great shot at achieving immortality.

Interestingly, England play 10-14 Tests during a year, which means Root gets a minimum of 20-25 innings to score runs. He is still behind 3,894 Test runs, but if he continues to score truckloads of runs, and piles on 800-1000 runs per year, there is an chance for the unthinkable to happen.

Fortunately for Root, he is still going strong and has the age by his side. He is England's main guy in Test cricket, and if he plays consistently till 2027, who knows, we might have a new leaderboard in Test cricket.
