India head coach, Gautam Gambhir congratulated Shikhar Dhawan on an illustrious career, and wished him well through his social media handle.

Gambhir's special message for Dhawan on retirement

Dhawan, announced his shocking retirement from international cricket on Saturday, a decision which was announced on his Instagram handle. Wishes poured in for the veteran batter, who had contributed immensely towards the Indian success in the last decade.

Hardik Pandya, the Indian all-rounder penned down a message for the Indian opener, following which Gambhir, who is the current head coach, and also gave tribute to Dhawan.

"Congratulations Shiki on a fantastic career! I know you will spread the same joy through everything you take up in the future."

Gambhir and Dhawan both played for Delhi together, and also had a brief stint with the Delhi Daredevils in the early going of the IPL.

Dhawan retirement: A stellar career comes to an end

Talking about Dhawan, the power-packed stroke-maker had an illustrious career, one to be proud of. He was the best batter in the Champions Trophy 2023, and was instrumental in India winning the tournament.

Also, he was a key figure in India's run to the semi-finale of the World Cup 2015, wherein his iconic knock against South Africa is still in the memory of the fans.

The southpaw finished his career with 2315 runs in 34 Tests, 6793 runs in 167 ODI games and 1759 runs in 68 T20Is. He also amassed 24 centuries for India across formats.
