The maveric top-order batter, Shikhar Dhawan, announced his retirement on Saturday. The Indian batter was out of the side for quite some time now, and even though he was out of the pecking order, the decision came in as a shocker.

The ever-so happy player, has been one of India's best cricketers in the last decade, forging a formidable top-order pair alongside Rohit Sharma. The duo have won countless games for India, and the southpaw, himself, has done exceptionally well.

Dhawan has played some extraordinary knocks throughout his career, but his debut Test innings will forever remain in the hearts of the Indian cricket lovers.

When Dhawan slammed a Test century in just 85 deliveries

It was the 3rd Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Mohali, and Dhawan made his Test debut in the match. Australia, batted first and scored a well-compiled 408 runs, courtesy, contributions from Steve Smith, Ed Cowan and David Warner.

Australia had put up a fighting total in the first innings, and then entered Dhawan, alongside Murali Vijay. What followed was a breath-taking assault on the Aussie bowlers, which will forever be etched in the history of Indian cricket.

The dashing Delhi batter played some delightful strokes, piercing the gaps through perfection. That day, he looked unstoppable as the Aussie bowlers looked helpless. Dhawan had a point to prove in Test cricket, and he did in some style, reaching his maiden ton in just 85 deliveries.

He was not required to bat in the second innings as India won the match by 6-wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan Retirement

Dhawan last played for India in 2022, during an ODI series against Bangladesh. His last Test match came in 2018, during the infamous India tour of England. Despite finding considerable success in Test cricket, Dhawan was omitted from the squad to try out younger players.

However, he did find success in the 50-over format, and was known as Mr. ICC for India. In World Cups, Champions Trophy, and Asia Cups, he played a total of 29 matches, scoring 1,772 runs, at an average of 63.30, including 8 centuries.
