In a significant development, veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. The legendary southpaw made the announcement this morning on his official handle on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Hailed for his scintillating stroke play, Shikhar Dhawan expressed gratitude to his family, fans and coaches for their unwavering support throughout his playing days. He also admitted to not having any regrets while reminiscing about his glorious international career.

Regarded as a flamboyant stroke-maker, Dhawan made his international debut in a One-Day International against Australia in Visakhapatnam in October 2010. Interestingly, he recorded an infamous two-ball duck on his maiden international appearance.

After a torrid run on India's Caribbean tour, Dhawan finally lived up to his potential during India's triumphant 2013 Champions Trophy campaign and never looked back.

He formed a solid opening pair alongside the legendary Rohit Sharma, as the duo led India to numerous memorable wins, particularly in the 50-over format.

He amassed 10867 runs for India in 269 international matches. Renowned for always bringing his A-game at ICC events, Dhawan was India's go-to man in ICC ODI tournaments, where he showcased his batting prowess umpteen times.

However, his slump in form collided with Shubman Gill's rise, and he was discarded from the national team.
