The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold a key meeting with the men’s cricket team management. The aim is to create a clear plan for all formats of the game and improve communication between the crux of people involved, primarily, between senior players and the management.
As per a report, the meeting will happen on Wednesday in Raipur, just before India's second ODI against South Africa.
BCCI heads and India players to attend meeting on Wednesday
As per a report from Sportstar, it is expected that BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, joint secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will be part of the talks.
It is not yet known if BCCI president Mithun Manhas will attend. Since the meeting is on a match day, senior players, for instance, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are unlikely to be called in.
A senior BCCI official confirmed the intent behind the meeting will be to strengthen communication and chalk out a clear roadmap for the Indian cricket team.
“Ensuring alignment between selectors and the team management to maintain selection consistency, improve individual development pathways, and enhance overall team performance,” the report from Sportstar read.
Gautam Gambhir puzzle to be solved in the meeting
The official also pointed to past issues, saying, “During the home Test season, there have been instances of confusing tactics on and off the field. We want clarity and forward planning, especially with the next Test series eight months away.”
Communication gaps with senior limited-overs players were also acknowledged. “India will be favourites to defend the T20 World Cup next year and strong contenders for the ODI World Cup after that, so we want these issues resolved quickly,” the official added.
Although not named directly, this situation hints at reported unease in the communication between the team management led by Gautam Gambhir and senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
With the buzz going as the duo is set to retire from ODIs as well before the World Cup, the upcoming meeting will serve as the necessary platform to address any confusion.
