In a massive move for women's cricket, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has revealed plans to launch a Women's Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) shortly.
Aminul made this announcement on Sunday afternoon at the Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka, during the players' auction for the twelfth season of the men's BPL tournament.
This initiative aims to create a professional domestic T20 league for female cricketers in the country. While a similar idea was proposed earlier this year during the last BPL season, it ultimately did not happen.

The BCB is now renewing its efforts to make the women's league a reality. During his opening speech, Bulbul directly addressed the franchise owners while expressing his thoughts on the landmark league reveal.
"I'd like to announce that we are starting women's BPL very soon. You guys will be given opportunity if you want to keep the women's team alongside your men's BPL team. You guys will be given priority on this basis," Aminul said.
This offer gives existing team owners the first chance to also own a franchise in the new women's league.
WBPL's functional grounds ahead of announcement
Though no date or timeframe has been announced for the WBPL, for the inaugural edition, player selection is expected to utilize an auction or draft system similar to the men's BPL, with specific rules designed to focus on local talent.
Teams are expected to be formed with a maximum squad size of approximately 15 local players and a limited number of foreign players as per standard regulations for Women's T20 cricket league around the world.
The selection process will involve a financial framework, including a salary cap and a base price for players across different categories, a system used in the men's BPL to ensure balanced teams and manage costs.
The exact rules for the women's tournament will be officially announced closer to its commencement, but the existing men's BPL regulations provide a strong operational template that the committee might follow.
