There will be no review meeting for the Indian team prior to the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, as per recent reports. Moreover, the report also indicates that Gautam Gambhir is set to continue as India head coach, at least until his contract runs till the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
It is worth noting that during the coaching tenure of Gambhir, Team India has now suffered two Test series whitewashes at home, both within the space of the last 12 months against New Zealand and South Africa. India also lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series earlier this year in Australia.
BCCI dissatisfied with selection committee: Reports
As stated by a Jagran News reporter, Gautam Gambhir will continue to remain India’s head coach until the 2027 ICC Men’s World Cup, and there are no considerations of removing him from the job at the moment.
The reporter also added that the BCCI, however, is dissatisfied with the selection committee and their over-reliance on all-rounders.
Furthermore, the report states that no discussions have taken place regarding the ODI future of former Indian captains and modern-day batting behemoths Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both Rohit and Kohli confirmed their retirements from Test cricket earlier this year, with certain reports indicating that the two batting icons want to continue playing ODIs till the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
As of now, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, and senior pros Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are all gearing up to face South Africa in a series of three ODI matches. The series will launch on Sunday, November 30 at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.
The ODI series will be followed by a five-match T20I rubber between the two sides from December 9 till December 19.
