India's budding seamer Umran Malik has dealt another major blow as he is set to miss the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament for Jammu & Kashmir after being down with dengue.

There were reports that Malik's red-ball comeback had been delayed further because of another injury, but the Jammu speedster has refuted such claims and stated that he is battling dengue and will soon return to the field.

“I would have loved to play in the tournament, but I’m just recovering from dengue,” the 24-year-old told Indian Express.

Malik was once touted as the Shoaib Akhtar-equivalent of Indian cricket, after his impressive 2022 IPL season, but his career was derailed because of injuries.

Malik reflected on his recent struggle to put on a good show and stated that he has been unlucky with injuries.

“I was fully prepared that season, but the weather didn’t help. Then I was looking forward to the IPL as I’d gained a lot in the months preceding the IPL. Unfortunately, even that didn’t go the way I wanted. But it also gave me the time to work on things I wanted to do in the practice sessions. I’ve definitely become a better bowler if you ask me. After the IPL, I injured my hamstring and just as I recovered I’m down with dengue,” he added.

Talking about the Buchi Babu Tournament, Malik would have featured for Jammu & Kashmir and face Mumbai which will feature the likes of Suraykumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer.
