Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee has revealed that he used to throw the javelin in his school days. This comes after India’s Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra recently said in an interview that Lee could have been a great javelin thrower.

During a conversation with JioStar ahead of the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025, Neeraj was asked which cricketer he thought could do well in javelin. He quickly named Brett Lee, saying he had heard that Lee had some experience with javelin and believed that, during his prime, Lee would have done very well in the sport.

Brett Lee Responds To Neeraj Chopra’s Javelin Claim

Former Australian speedster Brett Lee responded to Neeraj Chopra’s compliment by posting on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

He said that he did throw the javelin back in school but was nowhere near what Chopra does and continues to do. He also praised the Indian gold medalist, calling him a fine athlete, and wished him the best.

"I did throw the javelin back at my schooling days, but nowhere near what Neeraj does & continues to do. Very tough on the elbow. I have however admired what this fine athlete can do and wish him well."

The Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 will now be held on July 5 at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The event will feature top javelin stars from around the world, making it one of India’s biggest athletics events this year.

Neeraj Chopra Picks Jasprit Bumrah As Ideal Javelin Thrower

In a surprising revelation, Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra named Jasprit Bumrah, not Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni, as the Indian cricketer best suited for javelin throwing.

During a candid segment aired on Star Sports, hosted by Navjot Singh Sidhu, Chopra was asked which Indian cricketer could possibly shine in the demanding field of javelin throw.

He named Jasprit Bumrah, saying fast bowlers are more likely equipped with javelin throw techniques such as explosive power, flexibility, strong shoulders, and precise timing, all of which Bumrah possesses in abundance.
