Corbin Bosch creates history [Source: @ProteasMenCSA/x.com]
South African all-rounder, Corbin Bosch has gone from strength to strength in a relatively short Test career. He was drafted in the Proteas team with a lot of promise and it seems like Bosch is fulfilling it as he continues to dazzle with his performance against Zimbabwe in the first of the two-match Test series.
In the first innings of the South African batting, the visiting side piled up 418/9, courtesy of a brilliant century from Lhuan-dre Pretorius (153) and a special knock from Corbin Bosch, lower down the order. Coming into bat at number 8, Bosch tore apart the Zimbabwean attack and smacked a counter-attacking 100 off 124 balls to steal the show which took the hosts out of the game.
Then, in the Zimbabwean second innings, the all-rounder grabbed a five-wicket haul and etched his name in the history books to join some of the greats of the game.
Corbin Bosch joins Kallis in legendary list
With his fifer in the second innings which destroyed Zimbabwe, Bosch became the 4th South African to score a century and pick a five-wicket haul in the same match. Jacques Kallis is the only Proteas to have bagged such a feat twice in Test cricket.
Players | Batting/Bowling stats | Opponent |
Jimmy Sinclair | 106 runs & 6/26 | England |
Aubrey Faulkner | 123 runs & 5/120 | England |
Jacques Kallis | 110 runs & 5/90 | West Indies |
Jacques Kallis | 139* runs & 5/21 | Bangladesh |
Corbin Bosch | 100* & 5/43 | Zimbabwe |
(Proteas players with distinction of 5 wickets and century)
Kallis is the only player from South Africa who has achieved the feat twice and now Corbin has also joined the elite list.
Bosch's dream Test career so far
The Proteas all-rounder made his Test debut against Pakistan at Centurion, last year and in his maiden Test match, the batter scored a brilliant fifty and also picked up 5 wickets in the game as the hosts defeated Pakistan.
The Zimbabwe Test was just his second Test match and he once again showed his all-round prowess by hammering a mighty hundred and picking up a fifer which has taken South Africa to a clinical win over the hosts.
