Umran Malik Joins KKR During IPL 2025, But In Different Capacity

Indian fast bowler Umran Malik has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) amidst the ongoing IPL 2025 season. However, the speedster will not be operating within the team as a playing member. Instead, the 25-year-old will continue his rehabilitation under KKR’s “return to cricket” program.

It is worth noting that Umran Malik was acquired by the KKR franchise back during the IPL 2025 mega auction after he was released by the SRH team management. However, an injury setback ruled the fast bowler out of the IPL 2025 season.

Umran Malik joins KKR in IPL 2025

On Friday, April 25, the KKR franchise confirmed on their social media accounts that injured fast bowler Umran Malik will be joining the team amidst IPL 2025, albeit for his rehabilitation program. He will continue to work with his fellow teammates and support staff members in a bid to attain full recovery.


Even back in IPL 2024, Umran Malik managed to play just one match for the SRH franchise. The year before, the cricketer picked up just five wickets from eight innings and finished the season with an expensive average and economy rate.

Nonetheless, under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, the KKR team has managed to register three wins and sustained five defeats from eight matches so far in the IPL 2025 season. Their NRR also reads a dismal 0.212.

The defending champions will now face Punjab Kings in match number 44 of the competition. The much-awaited contest will be hosted by the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the action will commence from 7:30 PM IST onwards on Saturday, April 26.
