The Indian cricket team has allowed public viewing of their training sessions in Perth. Earlier, an Australian media report stated that Team India had requested for a ‘closed door’ practice session, which even disallowed the construction workers at Perth’s WACA Stadium to not watch or click pictures from India’s training.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has categorically denied any such reports, and claimed India’s practice sessions are open for all to view at the stadium.
BCCI denies Australian media report
Almost every player from the Indian team, barring captain Rohit Sharma, have arrived in Australia for the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series. On Wednesday, November 13, players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant were spotted commencing their preparations for the series under the guidance of head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Ahead of the series, media house ‘The Australian’ claimed in a report that the public as well as the construction workers at the WACA Stadium have been barred from viewing the practice sessions of the Indian cricket team between November 12 and November 17.
However, while speaking to PTI, a source close to the BCCI stated that no one from the Indian team management has made any such request, and India’s entire training session in Perth will be open for viewing. Contrary to the earlier report, the source added that even Australian and Indian media houses can click photographs and cover the proceedings of the entire training routine at the WACA Stadium.
As per the training, it is understood that the Indian cricket team will be playing an intra-squad match in Perth, where one team will be filled with batters and the other team will be filled with bowlers.
India’s first Test of the five-match series against Australia will commence from November 22 onwards at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The series also constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle.
