The Indian cricket team's fielding was under the scanner during the Match 5 of the Asia Cup 2023 as took on Nepal on Monday. The team has been severely criticized for their fielding efforts as they put down nearly as many as three chances inside the first 10 overs of the game. Their sloppiness on the field allowed Nepal to plunder 65 runs in the first powerplay which helped them set the tone for a total of 230.

Virat Kohli was one of the major culprits who put down an easy chance at extra cover against Aasif Sheikh during the first ball of the second over. The 22-year-old top-order batter went on to add a crucial 58 runs for his side which helped Nepal stay afloat during the middle phases of the game.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were the other two culprits who dropped Kushal Bhurtel on two occasions.

Virat, Rohit Sharma fans fight using fielding stats

Following Kohli’s lacklustre show on the field, Rohit Sharma’s fans took to social media to take a sly dig at Virat Kohli’s catching efficiency. Since the 2019 World Cup campaign, Virat Kohli is known to have one of the best catching efficiency of nearly 83.3%. However, Rohit Sharma is ranked lowest with a catching efficiency of just 73%. But in terms of drop catch count, Kohli has dropped marginally more catches than Rohit Sharma since the 2019 World Cup.

Axar Patel remains on top with a flawless catching efficiency of 100% while Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have a catching efficiency of 76.5% and 75% respectively.

At the time of writing, Nepal finished their innings with a respectable score of 230.  This young side was able to breach the 200-run mark for the first time in this tournament. Had those chances been capitalized early on, the scoreline could have looked a lot different.
