The IPL 2025 aucdtion underwent on Sunday with many key players going under the hammer and were bought by the franchises as teams aim to strengthen their team ahead of the next IPL season. Some of the buys were brilliant in the auction, while some raised eyrebrows.
One such shocking decision was David Warner, the Aussie superstar going unsold. A legend of the IPL, Warner is a former IPL champion and has previously led SRH and DC in the league. However, despite boasting stellar record in the league, his last two seasons were average, considering his lofty standards.
As a result, when his name came up, no franchise raised the paddle and the former IPL captain went unsold in the auction. However, there is still a chance that Warner might be able to take part in the upcoming IPL season, and here's how.
IPL 2025 unsold players rule explained
As per the IPL player unsold rule, the players who went unsold on Day 1 will have a second chance to grab a franchise as their names will once again be brought at the end of second day. The auction will begin with Set 13, which comprises of capped batters.
It will be followed by all-rounders, wicket-keepers, fast bowlers and spinners up for grabs. As compared to Day 1, the speed of the auction will step up as more players will be brought on the table as compared to the previous day. There will also be an accelerated list of 25 players prepared by the franchises whom they want to be named in the auction.
Once everything is done and dusted, franchises will be asked to prepare a list of players who went unsold in the first round or weren't named in the auction list until then.
Hence, if the franchises have slots left in the side, and Warner's name comes up, teams will likely go after him, due to his prior IPL experience and the batting prowess he brings to the table.
