Ex-Skipper Calls Babar Azam A 'Weak Captain', Asks Him To Learn 'This' From Rohit & Kohli

Pakistan had a forgettable T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, suffering a group-stage elimination from the tournament. Led by Babar Azam, the Men in Green lost to arch-rivals India before a shocking defeat against the United States prematurely ended their journey.

Following Pakistan's humiliating outing, former captain Rashid Latif lashed out at Babar Azam for his timid batting and tactical shortcomings.

'Babar became weak as a captain' - Rashid Latif

Speaking to GTV Sports, the legendary keeper-batter stated that Babar should not have accepted the captaincy in the first place.

He also reckoned that the stylish batter must not be involved in leadership politics as it would adversely affect his performance.

"See, after that World Cup that happened in India, things shouldn't have gone like this. It's their own thinking that they removed Babar, and Shaheen came forward, but then again, Babar became weak as a captain," Latif said.

"Because whoever comes to lead should lead with confidence and it's my opinion that Babar Azam's biggest mistake was to accept the captaincy again. If he continues as captain, that will be an even bigger mistake by him. Pakistan has found a great batsman after so many years who is dominating the world; he shouldn't get involved in this politics," he added.

Rashid Latif asks Babar and Rizwan to bat aggressively

Furthermore, Latif also urged Babar and Rizwan to adopt a more aggressive batting style to take Pakistan forward in T20Is.

He even cited examples of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who guided India to World Cup glory with a revamped batting approach.

"Rohit has changed himself 180 degrees; change is possible because he has become a role model. His IPL strike rate used to be 130-140, but this year it went up to 160. Virat Kohli did the same thing. If these two batsmen can change, then anyone can," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Babar and Rizwan might not play in the Global T20 as the PCB hasn't given them the NOC to feature in the tournament.
