Former cricketer turned politician Kirti Azad has strongly criticized BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Vice president Rajiv Shukla, branding them as 'shameless opportunists'.

His disapproval stems from their unprecedented act of sitting with the team during the felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 4 July.

Azad further pointed out that the officials' presence overshadowed the players, a sight rarely seen in the cricketing world according to him.

He also expressed his view that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were relegated to the role of 'sidekicks' during the T20 World Cup 2024, with the BCCI office-bearers claiming the spotlight as the real winners.

Here's what Kirti Azad wrote on popular social media platform, X:

"Actually #WorldCup is won by ⁦@JayShah s/o ⁦@AmitShah and by ⁦@ShuklaRajiv @ImRo45 @imVkohli and Indian team are just sidekicks. Nowhere in the world officials are allowed to sit with the team during felicitations. Shameless opportunists."
