The second season of the MLC is about to get on the way. The first match of this season will be between MI New York and Seattle Orcas, a replay of the final from the last edition. This match will be played at Church Street Park in Morrisville, USA.

Both these teams were the best-performing units of the previous edition, and they will be looking to keep it that way this time, too. While MINY will be looking to lift the title a second time, the Orcas will be trying to go one better and be the champions this time around.

Before the match starts, let us look at a few tactical points that might decide the fate of the game.

Pooran-Pollard vs De Kock-Klaasen

Nicholas Pooran played a devastating match-winning knock against the same opposition in the final of the previous edition. He will be looking to do the same in this game. While Pooran will be batting at number three for MINY, he will soon be followed by Kieron Pollard. KP does not need an introduction. His ability to shift gears and provide strong finishes to his team is known to everybody. A lot of how the MINY batting does will depend on how Pooran sets the stage up and how Pollard later capitalises on it.

While MINY have Windies power in their batting line-up, the Seattle Orcas have the dangerous South African duo of Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen. The responsibility to give the Orcas a blazing start will be on de Kock, and Klaasen will have the job of maintaining the momentum and then giving them a strong finish.

The fate of the game will be decided to a greater extent by the outcome of this Carribean Calypso vs South African Soca battle.

Parnell's Strategy vs Pollard's Experience

In the last edition of the MLC, the Seattle Orcas emerged as the most consistent team. It was wonderful to see the way Wayne Parnell was leading the side. He was well aware of the resources he had and used them with very intelligently.

On the other side is the experienced campaigner Kieron Pollard. The West Indian legend is a master of this format, and there is no dearth in his experience. He has been at the helm of multiple sides, leading them to title wins and will be looking to do the same for MI New York in this edition. Pollard's experience will be valuable for the team in crunch situations and pressure games.

So, while there is the strategic acumen of Parnell for the Orcas, it is the experience of Pollard for MI New York. How these two captains go about things will probably be the most important deciding factor.

MINY's Pace vs Orcas' Batting

The MI New York boasts of a brilliant pace attack comprising Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult and Anrich Nortje. However, it is expected that only two of these three will play in the game; it still looks like a lethal attack with Ehsan Adil rounding them off.

MI will be looking to go for the kill in the initial stages with Boult and Rabada. If they find a way to include Norje on the side, then it will be a fearsome trio for most batting lineups in the league. The batters of Seattle Orcas, especially in the top order, will have to be effective, efficient, and clever in handling these bowlers. This face-off will go a long way in determining the result of the game.
